Of many model systems for the jamming transition, the poly(<i>N<\/i>-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) microgel suspension is a unique one.   The particles are soft and deformable, so they can be efficiently packed beyond the close packing condition for the hard spheres.   Moreover, due to the thermo-responsibility, a small change in temperature will cause a large change of the particle diameter.   This endows PNIPAM microgel suspensions with interesting physical and rheological properties <span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-1\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-1\">[2]<\/a><\/span><span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-2\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-2\">[3]<\/a><\/span>.   Different from the inert hard sphere counterparts, the PNIPAM microgel suspension undergoes a transition from solid-like to liquid-like state with increasing temperature not due to the increase in thermal energy <i>k<\/i><sub>B<\/sub><i>T<\/i>, but due to the decrease in the particle diameter, which lowered the effective volume fraction <i>\u03c6<\/i><sub>eff<\/sub> of the particles in the suspension <span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-3\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-3\">[4]<\/a><\/span><span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-4\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-4\">[5]<\/a><\/span><span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-5\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-5\">[6]<\/a><\/span><span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-6\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-6\">[7]<\/a><\/span>.   In the view of jamming phase diagram, <i>T<\/i> was coupled with <i>\u03c6<\/i><sub>eff<\/sub>, so that the PNIPAM microgel suspension state cannot be independently controlled by <i>T<\/i> and <i>\u03c6<\/i><sub>eff<\/sub>.   Moreover, the softness of the microgel particles was also changed by the swelling extent.   There was a report where <i>\u03c6<\/i><sub>eff<\/sub> was varied by the particle number density at constant temperature <span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-7\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-7\">[8]<\/a><\/span>, but direct comparison between the effect of the two control variables, <i>T<\/i> and concentration, on increasing \u03c6<sub>eff<\/sub> is lacking.   In the jamming state, the microgel suspension responded essentially elastically to the applied small strain and turned to the shear-unjamming state and flowed beyond yielding by tuning control variables <span id=\"cite_ITEM-5225-8\" name=\"citation\"><a href=\"#ITEM-5225-8\">[9]<\/a><\/span>.
